The museum is built in an old mansion dating back to 1830. The mansion has been renovated completely. Inside the building you can visit a modern exhibition. The museum gives an overview of the developments and most important events in the maritime world starting from the 15th century. With the help of maps, model ships, cannons, coins, other artefacts and official documents history is revived, supported by modern media techniques. Apart from a permanent display other exhibitions are organized from time to time. A café and a souvenir shop can be localized in the building. The elegant mansion Villa Maria next to the museum is also a visit worthwhile. It is fully furnished with 18th century furniture.

Kura Hulanda Museum (Otrobanda)

In the museum you will take a trip through time from the beginning of the slave trade until the abolition of slavery. The artefacts and texts are supported by life; parts of ships and African living rooms have been imitated. The museum harbours a large collection of art and fossils from Africa. The museum is in front of the Kura Hulanda Hotel, which in itself is worth visiting. The hotel is built in the middle of an old city district in Otrobanda.

Jewish Cultural Historical Museum (Punda)

The museum is behind the Mikve Isreal, Emanuel Synagogue, one of the oldest synagogues in the western hemisphere (since 1651).
The museum displays religious artefacts of the first Jewish community in the Caribbean area, like the Torah scrolls and the Hanuhah lamps. The museum is in down town Punda.

The museum situated in the centre of Punda in the historical Fort Church dates back to 1769. It was built within the walls of Fort Amsterdam (1635). The museum has a small but impressive collection of artefacts from the Dutch protestant church community.

A permanent collection reveals art made by well-known local artists. The rooms in the museum are decorated in 18th century style.
You can also look at objects made by the native inhabitants, the Indians and accompanied by explanatory texts. Others feel themselves completely at home in the garden where the first plane that ever landed in Curaçao is standing.

At the entrance of the Christoffel Park (western Curaçao) a small museum has been set up. It is situated in a former depot in Landhuis Savonet, the oldest mansion on the island (17th century). In the museum stories can be read and artefacts seen of former times as far as the period of the formation of the island. It is nice to make an intermediate stop here on you way to Westpunt.

Landhuis Kenepa is one of the greatest mansions on the island. You can walk around at ease in the mansion, which is furnished antiquely.
